Debbie Kids grow so fast; before you realize it, they’re all grown up. One day they are taking their first steps, and the next, they’re graduating from high school. That’s why it’s so important to document all those special moments along the way.
You have something to look back on and cherish forever. Also, one day, you will have a chance to share these memories with your children, who will be so grateful. How do you capture those precious memories?
Record Videos
Videos are an excellent way to capture memories. Record your child’s first steps, words, and other special milestones. You can also record everyday moments and activities to give you a little slice of life from that period. Include a time stamp to look back and see how much your child has grown. Additionally, add your commentary to create a more personal experience.
As much as recording videos is crucial, preserving them is too. Label each video clearly and store it in a safe place. You can also create a video montage set to music for a special keepsake. To add more life to your videos, transfer film reels to DVD and digital formats. You’ll have a chance to repair damaged reels and improve the quality.
Take Lots of Pictures
Pictures freeze time and allow you to relive precious moments over and over. Take lots of pictures, especially during the first few years when they’re growing fast. Get in the picture too. Choose different angles and distances, candid shots as well as posed.
Did the child accomplish something special? Get a picture of that as well. To preserve these memories, create a photo album or scrapbook. If you’re not into that, store the images electronically to view and share easily. Describe each photo with a caption.
Write Down Memories
You may not always have a camera at hand, but you can always jot down memories. Write down the funny things your child says, important events that happen, and other precious moments. Add these to a journal or scrapbook. You can also create a blog or website to share these memories with others. Date your entries to track your child’s growth.
Keep Baby Items
As your child grows, they will outgrow clothes, toys, and other baby items. Because these items trigger fond memories, keeping a few things around is thoughtful. Create a baby box filled with clothes, shoes, blankets, and other items. You could also keep a special toy or two.
For more oversized items, take pictures before getting rid of them. Have separate boxes for each child, or keep everything together. You can share these items with the kids when they’re older. They will love seeing what they used to wear and use.
Make a Time Capsule
A time capsule is a collection of items that represents a specific time. It’s buried or hidden away and opened at a later date. It’s a fun activity to do with your child. Include items like pictures, a favorite toy, a baby blanket, and a letter to the future.
Remember to write down your hopes and dreams for the child, seal the capsule tightly, and store it in a safe place. Dig up and open on the child’s 18th birthday or when they move out of the house.
Collect Artwork
As your child creates artwork, save some of it to reflect on. Do a little each year or save everything. The artwork reflects your child’s thoughts, emotions, and imagination at that stage in their life. It’s a sweet way to look back and see how they’ve grown. You can keep the artwork in a box or scrapbook. If you don’t have the space, take pictures of the pieces and create a digital album.
Get Creative
Get creative and think of ways to commemorate special moments. You could plant a tree when your child is born and take yearly pictures in front of it or start a tradition like taking Santa pictures every year. Birthdays are another excellent opportunity to get creative. You could make a special birthday breakfast or throw a themed party. Make sure you document whatever you do with pictures, videos, and written memories. One day the entire family will be grateful you took the time to do this.
