5 Common Ways To Donate to Charity

Are you passionate about saving butterflies from extinction? Or do you care deeply about the health and well-being of cats that are kept in shelters? If you are, then it’s likely that at one time or another in your life, you have looked to support a charitable organization. In previous years, this would have meant donating to volunteers standing outside shops or even those who would knock on doors.

As technology makes connecting with charities around the world easier, there are many more options for donating your time, money (or both) to a charitable organization of your choice. So, here are some easy ways to do just that! Please note that these options may not apply to all organizations due to the size of certain charities.

1. Online Donation

Many charitable organizations have their own websites and accept donations via bank transfer, thus making this the most popular method, whether you are donating to the American Red Cross or an animal shelter.

It is quite simple to do. On the website, locate an area specifically intended for donations or a ‘Donate’ button. You would then be directed to a page where you can choose the amount you wish to donate and the payment method, such as debit or credit card. Once complete, you should receive an acknowledgment page or message to confirm the successful donation.

2. Donate By Phone

Many charities provide phone numbers for potential donors to call and make donations directly. Many people feel that this is a more secure option, but you will need to wait on the phone and have your credit or debit card details to hand. You will also have to state your address, which may then be used to send you information about the charity by post.

3. Personal Check or Money Order

Donations can be made by sending checks or money orders to the charity’s postal address. In recent years, this has fallen out of favor, with more charities opting for bank transfers. There is also the potential issue of the check being lost in the mail and the check clearing time. If you want to donate to a charity of your choice via check or money order, it is worth calling ahead to make sure it gets sent to the right place.

4. Magazine Subscriptions and Sales

Do you want to receive monthly or biannual magazines about your favorite charity? If so, it can be worth looking into supporting them via the selling of magazines. Many charities use magazine subscriptions and sales as a way for members to support their cause. Be aware, however, that the frequency at which paper magazines are printed may drop, and the charity you are supporting may want to send out email-based magazines instead to save paper and costs.

5. Volunteering

Volunteering with a charitable organization is one of the best ways to support its mission. Charities would not exist or be able to function without volunteers. It is a great way to support the charity of your choice, and you can learn some valuable skills to put on a resume.
